Central Air

A Frog was sitting on the floor listening to the heat blowing through the registers in his home.

The Frog took a moment to appreciate the fact that he had central heating. Central heating has become a necessity in life. Even though it started off as a luxury when it was first invented which was, I don’t know, probably something like 100 years ago.

The Frog wondered what life would be like without central heating. It would certainly be harder to live a life defined by steady temperature. Without central heating, the home would be subject to the elements. Perhaps a fire could be kept but that would heat only one area and wouldn’t be a consistent temperature anyway.

Temperature reliability is a pretty big deal if we’re really thinking about it. Could you imagine having to just live at the whims of the Earth your whole life? Just having to sit with whatever temperature the Earth decided was appropriate on a given day? That would be ridiculous. I can’t imagine any life on Earth would willingly choose to continue if they were constantly subject to the sometimes erratic shifts in temperature that Mother Nature had in store.

Silly. That’s just a silly way to live.

Instead, like the Frog is demonstrating, we can sit inside our own homes, sheltered from the elements, and have air that is tuned exactly to the temperature that we want, blown throughout our homes. This is how we help make this planet habitable and enjoyable for all of us. How anyone lived without central air before now is absolutely beyond our understanding. They must have been a very advanced civilization to withstand brutal elements like that.

I, like the Frog, am pretty glad I live now. When it’s okay to take things that used to be considered luxuries for granted. Taking things for granted is the only sign of progress in this world.

“I can’t wait to take more things for granted in the future,” thought the Frog. “Wish they’d hurry up and get here soon.”
