Pretty Windy

The wind was blowing so hard it was keeping Rani, a Raccoon, up all night. Rani had a big presentation to give at work tomorrow about how to make the company she worked at perform better but she wasn’t able to get rested for it because the wind wouldn’t let her.

Sometimes the wind would die down a little bit and Rani would be pretty satisfied and just be drifting off to sleep and then all of a sudden the wind would start blowing and making a racket and Rani would be up again.

Finally, Rani decided she couldn’t take this and needed to ask the wind to knock it off. She got out of bed put on her robe and walked outside.

“I have a big presentation tomorrow!” Rani yelled to the wind, “Can you knock it off so I can get some sleep!”

The wind subsided for a moment. It seemed like it was contemplating Rani’s request, turning itself into a light breeze as it mulled it over.

“Well then when’s a good time for me to do my thing?” The wind asked.

Hmm, that’s a fair question. Rani hadn’t considered this before making her request. It’s unfair of her to ask the wind to just stop blowing and not offer an alternative time to complete its duty. The wind is just as much a part of the world as Rani or her important corporate presentation to increase profits.

“Well, I don’t have anything going on next Tuesday, how about then?” Rani offered.

“Well Malcolm, the mouse down the street said he needs quiet next Tuesday because he has a big important corporate presentation about how to increase profits at his company and needs his rest that day.” The wind replied.

“Well, what about Wednesday?” Rani asked.

“No, you know Janvi, the giraffe down the street? Same thing with her schedule.” The wind answered.

“Well, what days can you do other than today?” Rani exclaimed.

“Umm, well, today was kind of the only day...” the wind replied, “Everyone has a conflict from now until...”

The wind took out a calendar and flipped through several pages, then several more pages, then several pages more...

“March 5, 2028,” said the wind.

Rani realized this was a losing battle. Everyone had to deal with the wind blowing at an inopportune time at some point in their lives. This just happened to be her time.

“Well, I guess carry on then,” Rani relented, “but thanks for taking the time to listen, Wind.”

“You got it!” The wind answered, “I’ll wait for you to get inside before I start again.”

Rani got back in and under her covers, she slowly drifted off to sleep. Just as she was about to drift off to slumber, she heard the wind knock over a flower pot outside.

Followed by a quick, “Sorry!”
