Reggie's Hat House
When the Turtle was looking for a new hat he went to the only place he knew that sold hats.
“You’ve come to the right place!” Exclaimed Reggie, an Otter, “I know more hats than anyone else!”
This was Reggie’s famous slogan, “I know more hats than anyone else.” No one really knew if it meant he knew more hats like, personally, than anyone or if he knew more *about* hats than anyone.
Everyone in the forest had their own opinions as to what Reggie’s slogan was really trying to say. In fact, folks had such strong opinions about what Reggie’s slogan actually meant that folks would readily identify what side they fell on. It was a great question for casual small talk, breaking the ice during meet and greets and it was even a pretty popular first date question to determine long term romantic compatibility.
Reggie never revealed what the phrase was “supposed” to mean. He was pretty tight lipped about it, both because the buzz helped folks like the Turtle seek him out whenever they were in need of a hat and also because admitting that the phrase was somehow unclear would hurt his inner belief that he was a frustrated wordsmith who could one day become a great novelist if he could only find time between selling hats to put pen to paper.
“I’m looking for a hat!” The Turtle replied to Reggie, “Something that will protect me from the sun but won’t be too bulky either.”
“Well,” Reggie said, “I’ve got just the thing for you.”
Reggie reached out and pulled down a very light straw hat. With a nice navy belt around it. When the Turtle saw it he was smitten
“Wow, it’s perfect!” The Turtle exclaimed, “How did you know?”
Reggie smiled.
