The Mountain Knows What It's Doing
Three Mountain Goats had descended the mountain that morning to spend the day in town. The three friends loved going into town because things were always changing and always exciting.
Their mountain on the other hand just kept staying the same. It looked over the same town in the same way year after year after year. The mountain was boring and the Goats were young and into excitement.
As the Goats got older their excitement made them yearn for the outside world. All three of them moved into the town for a bit and then all three moved even further away to see what bigger things there were, far away from their normal, boring mountain.
The Goats all started jobs and had careers. They stayed away from the mountain but remembered it pretty fondly. They lost touch with each other but never so long that a quick phone call or simple text wouldn’t bring their friendship roaring back as if no time had passed.
The Goats then stayed away and had families and kids of their own. Life got harder in their new and exciting lives, in their new and exciting towns. As life got harder they would think how simple it was back on the mountain where there was nothing exciting going on. They started to even miss their mountain, and thoughts of nostalgia shifted from their fun trips into town to the simple games they’d play and songs they’d sing high up above everyone else.
As their families grew and the kids left the nest the Goats decided they should all return to their home on the mountain for a reunion! It would be great to see each other and reconnect after all this time and see what their little town had become.
When the Goats arrived they all met up in town and were happy to see each other. It was a great time catching up on the past, reminiscing, and feeling excited about reconnecting with old friends.
But as they walked through their town at the base of the mountain they couldn’t help but notice that the town had basically turned into the towns they all lived in currently. The town no longer had the charm and excitement it did when they were kids before they had seen the whole world and lived a whole life.
Then one of the Goats decided maybe they should go up the mountain and see if everything changed up there too. They all decided to go check it out.
When they got to the top of the mountain and looked out over everything beneath them it didn’t feel that different to any of them. The view changed, sure, some more developments, things were a little older but the mountain was the same. The Goats took a seat and played some of the old games they used to play and sang some of the old songs they used to sing.
They were glad, that after a whole life, their boring old mountain stayed their boring old mountain. The goats figured it had been there before they were born and will be there long after they died - the mountain must really know what it’s doing.
