Are We Doing It Right?
In the deepest part of the forest lived an Opossum named Rajan and his best friend, a Crow named Blinx.
Rajan and Blinx chose to live in the deepest part of the forest together on purpose. They both liked having their own space but also decided they didn't want to be hermits. So the two went in together and got a place that was far away from everyone except each other.
Their days were spent subsisting and meeting their basic needs. They grew their own food and they built their own shelters and they even took turns entertaining each other with music, or stories, or skits.
Their lives were pretty simple and they both enjoyed it very much. They never worried about the rat race, or cell phone signals, or notifications, or emails. They mostly worried about the weather which after you get used to it, isn't really much of a worry at all.
Sometimes the two would go into the city to see if they were missing anything. Maybe they were being delusional and their experiment of living far away was crazy and one day they'd see the error of their ways.
When they would spend time in the city they would always see a lot of folks who they could talk to and hear about what was going on in society. The two would ask questions and sometimes even though they planned on staying for a day they would be having so much fun they would stay for two days or even three.
But they would always return to their place deep in the forest and they would feel relaxed and at ease. They couldn't help but wonder if maybe this was the wrong way to feel. Everyone in the city seemed to have big important plans or they were going to big important meetings with big important goals. Rajan and Blinx didn't have those things.
All they had was the quiet of the forest and the suspense of what the weather would be like in the morning. Oh and whether or not they wanted to have a fire this evening so they could roast s'mores. Maybe that was wrong or maybe it wasn't.
