Pray For The Opposite

It had rained for nearly a whole week and the three Raccoons were starting to worry that their long-planned Summer Kick-Off Picnic would have to be canceled. The Raccoons had spent the better part of the week trying their hardest to stay optimistic that the rains would end and the sky would clear and the summer sun would make an appearance and all would feel right.

When Felix awoke the morning of the picnic he stretched and yawned and rubbed his eyes. Before opening his eyes he even said a last little prayer for the rains to stop and for the sun to come out. He opened his eyes and though the sky was still gray there was no rain.

"Yippie!" Felix exclaimed.

A large clap of thunder accented Felix's cry.

"Oh dear," Felix thought, "I hope that doesn't mean..."

The sky opened and rain started pouring down. Felix's prayer had not been answered.

"Oh well," thought Felix, "So much for prayers."

Felix heard his phone buzz and saw that there were already several new messages in the group chat with his friends Sophia and Dustin.

Dustin: Well, looks like we're getting rained out

Sophia: I know, what a bummer, I even said a prayer hoping we'd be dry today

Felix: I said a prayer too! Can't believe neither one of us were able to cash in a prayer today!

Sophia: SERIOUSLY? You too? Wow. That's so lame of God!

Felix had never actually thought of God as capable of being lame but if he was being honest with himself he felt that in this situation the accusation was accurate.

Dustin: I prayed too! But I prayed for rain because God always does the opposite of what I ask for!

Felix didn't know how to respond. He stared at Dustin's message, perplexed, confused. He could understand Dustin's reasoning but couldn't believe that was Dustin's relationship with God. It seemed so... odd.

Sophia: ... You're kidding us, right?

Dustin is typing a response.

...

Dustin is typing a response.

...

Dusting is typing a response. ...

Dustin: Haha! Yeah, I'm totally just kidding lolol! That would be a crazy thing to do, wouldn't it? Should we just try again for the picnic tomorrow?

The friends all agreed and Felix stayed in his bed and listened to the rain that God insisted they needed today.
