Not Even Today?
Three Monkeys were waiting on a delivery. It was a very special delivery, one the Monkeys had been anticipating for weeks. As the delivery window neared the Monkeys even took to waiting outside every day for the delivery truck to show up. Hoping that their delivery day would finally be here.
"Do you think today is going to be the day?” Asked Hamid, the first Monkey.
“I sure hope so,” answered Karima, the second Monkey, “I don’t know how much longer I can wait.”
“If today is not our delivery day I’m going to march right to the internet and write a one-star review of the company online! That’ll show ‘em!” Exclaimed Leopold, the third monkey.
Hamid and Karima were shocked. They couldn’t believe what they were hearing from the usually level-headed Leopold. This was a very drastic action for Leopold to suggest.
“A one-star review??” Hamid asked, “Are you sure we need to take such destructive action?”
“Yeah that is really an escalation of this situation, Leopold,” Karima added, “Is it really necessary?”
Leopold was having none of it.
“Every day for the last three days we’ve been waiting for our package. We’re at the tail end of the delivery estimate. If it’s not delivered today I think it’s only right that we leave a review to let others know not to get their hopes up based on the company suplied estimated delivery date!” Leopold replied firmly.
Sure, Hamid and Karima agreed with Leopold on this point, but — was it egregious enough to leave a one-star review? Those are the first reviews everyone reads online. One-star reviews are the single biggest source of information on everything that exists in the modern world. Does a delivery that is taking longer than expected warrant such a harsh action against a small business?
A delivery truck appeared in the distance and pulled onto the Monkeys street. Hamid, Karima, and Leopold stood up with anticipation. The driver parked his truck at the first house on the street and made a delivery.
“Lucky them,” thought the monkeys.
Then he pulled up to the next house and made a delivery.
“Must be nice,” thought the monkeys.
Finally, the truck pulled up directly in front of the monkeys. The driver slowed down. Waved at the three friends. Parked in front of their house. Grabbed a package from his truck. Got off. Started walking towards the house right next to theirs, and made a delivery. The Monkeys felt the rush of anticipation drain from each of their little bodies.
“Make sure you write on the review that they have no respect for their customers,” Hamid said to Leopold.
“And also be sure to add that we’ll never order from these people again. Karima added.
Leopold was already typing on his phone.
“Oh don’t worry, I’m way ahead of you guys… “
