Find Anything Good?

A Cardinal named Sherri was pecking around the ground looking to find her house keys which she had just carelessly dropped and lost in the grass.

Her friend Folgers, a River Otter, came by and noticed Sherri pecking away at the ground. Folgers instantly had one question she was dying to ask Sherri. It was a great question she was about to ask. A question that is really useful anytime you see someone rooting around for something with lots of determination:

“Find anything good yet?” Folgers asked, cheerfully with a smile.

Sherri was instantly annoyed by the question. Because, obviously, no, she had not found anything good yet! And even more so, Sherri wasn’t even sure if she would count house keys as something good at all. House keys are only important when they’re lost. That’s when they got the most eyes looking for em! Otherwise, who even gives house keys a second thought???

“Why would you ask me that?” Sherri

Folgers had never heard anyone answer the question with such derision before… What a fun wrinkle! It’always nice to hear new interpretations of your go-to social scenario question, helps life from getting too stale, Folgers thought, He decided to play along and see where it goes.

“Well, if you found something good maybe I might join you and find something good for myself,” Folgers answered, excited.

Sherri was confused. She was looking for her house key, which made sense. Why the heck would Folgers want to look for Sherri’s house key, and then keep it if she found it? Just what the heck was Folgers trying to pull here?

“Well,” Sherri began, concerned, “You better give me anything you find, since I’m the one who it belongs to.”

Oh that’s not fun, thought Folgers. What fun is it to look for something good if you just have to give it away as soon as you find it?

“Got it!” Sherri exclaimed as she picked her key up, “Well, it was nice talking to you Folgers!”

Folgers watched, jealous, as Sherri took the thing she found on the ground and went inside her house.

“Lucky,” thought Folgers, “Maybe one day I’ll find something good too. Till then I guess I’ll just just have to keep my eyes open.”

Folgers walked along and kept scanning the ground, hoping to eventually find something good somewhere.
