Hide and Seek
The Cat and the Fox were playing hide and seek. When the two friends woke up this morning neither one of them had anticipated playing hide and seek later in the day yet here they were. You really never can truly know what a day has in store for you.
The Cat woke up this morning assuming she’d go about her usual day. Have her morning coffee, eat some breakfast, work from home, finish some tasks, then meet her friend, the Fox, in the evening for dinner.
Pretty standard day all in all.
The Fox also woke up this morning assuming she’d go about her usual day as well. She would wake up, do her morning yoga, have a smoothie for breakfast, shower, worked on her novel for the afternoon, then she would go to meet her friend the Cat for dinner.
Pretty standard day overall, as well.
The two then met at the restaurant they had both decided upon beforehand. They sat down and had some chit-chat and caught up with each other’s lives. They ordered drinks and loosened up and talked some more. They ordered their entrees and ate and chatted and really enjoyed each other’s company the whole time.
Then they got up and left and went their separate ways.
The Cat and the Fox had been friends for a very long time. They knew each other very well and knew that this type of interaction was pretty typical of their get-togethers for the last several years.
But because the two friends had known each other for so long they could also see what age had done to each of them. Each a little more tired, each a little less lively, each a little quicker to cut hangouts short and try to get back to their homes in order to catch up on enough relaxation or sleep, or general chilling for them to maybe one day open their eyes, scream “ready or not, here I come,’’ at the top of their lungs and try to find the person they each remembered the other one being when they were younger.
