Order For Holly

While the Llama and the Hog were sitting down on a little bench waiting for their names to be called so they could go pick up their coffees and go on with their days.

“Wilma!” Yelled the barista as she placed a coffee down.

Wilma, the Llama, went up and grabbed her coffee. She took a sip.

“Mmm, this place is so good they always make my coffee perfect and quick!” Wilma gushed.

“I’m excited to try mine!” Holly, the Hog, replied, “I’ve never been to this place and it looks so good!”

“Maria!” Called out the Barista as she set another drink down.

A small awkward moment passed between Wilma and Holly as they both assumed Holly would have logically been called next but obviously wasn’t.

“Derek!” Called the Barista for another order.

“Dang, I must have ordered a pretty complicated drink!” Holly said jokingly.

“Must have!” Wilma replied in that tone that’s like half flat, half excited, and half annoyed.

“Roger!” The Barista called out again.

By now Holly was wondering if they had totally forgotten about her order. That would certainly be odd given that she was standing right there, and that she ordered on the same check as Wilma, who obviously got her drink. Plus, she looked over at Wilma who had begun drinking her coffee already, so now they would be at different levels of drink which, honestly, really isn’t an issue but it would have been nice to drink their coffees together. There’s something nice about two friends enjoying an activity together at the same time and at roughly the same pace.

“Malcolm! And... small drip for Maria!” The barista called out again.

“Maria doesn’t even seem to be here, maybe I should just take her drink?” Joked Holly.

“Don’t even think about it!” said a Giraffe, presumably Maria, since she scooped up Maria’s drink and headed out.

“Maybe I should check on my order,” Holly asked aloud, “It’s been a little while now...”

“Yeah, this is pretty uncharacteristic,” Wilma replied, “Might as well check.”

Holly went up to the cashier and gently asked her how much longer she might have to wait for her drink.

“We didn’t forget about you,” the Barista answered, “We just need a few extra minutes for your drink we apolo--“

“HOLLY! Oh my god, that drink didn’t say Maria it said Holly! How the hell did that get messed up?!”

“Oh, that would be my bad,” the cashier answered, “I thought she looked like a Maria so I put that down.”

“Why would you do that??” The Barista asked, perplexed.

“Who doesn’t want to pretend to be someone else every once in a while?” The cashier replied.

Confused, Holly went up to grab her coffee and get out of there. She didn’t want to be in this weird place anymore.

As she and Wilma were walking outside the two were pretty stunned into silence based on what they had just experienced.

“Jesus Wilma, that was a weird place, this coffee is delicious but I’m never going there again.”

Wilma had a far-off look in her eye. Like she was contemplating something bigger than herself.

“My name is actually Lorene”, she said. “I just really liked being called Wilma by the barista, I liked being Wilmam but alas, I’ve been found out.”

Holly and Wilma walked together quietly for the rest of the afternoon. They didn’t have much to say to each other and never spoke again. Never having really net one another in the first place.
