We Should Start A Podcast
A Bear and an Owl were sitting in a tree having a very important chat. It was the type of chat you can only really have with a close friend. The topic could be about anything in the world but somehow the chat still feels weighty, like you’re both getting to the bottom of some unsolvable problem.
“So, I was sitting there,” The Bear started, “Thinking to myself, like, what am I doing? I just feel so scared and tired and drained and…”
“Wait, wait, wait!” The Owl quickly jumped in, “Maybe we should stop talking about this.”
The Bear was taken aback.
“What? Why?” The Bear asked, confused.
“Sorry, it’s just that this is a really good conversation,” the Owl answered, “We should record it in case we ever want to start a podcast.”
The Bear hung his head. This wasn’t the first time a great conversation had been derailed by someone suggesting they stop the conversation in order to somehow capture the magic in audio format and turn it into a podcast.
The Bear was tired of podcasts. Every good conversation these days seemed to invariably end with either regret that the conversation wasn’t recorded or the proposition that a new podcast be started. Conversations became commodities instead of something special shared between friends.
“What kind of podcast would we do?” The Bear asked, already knowing the Owl would likely answer by saying they should do a podcast with just the two of them talking.
“Well, it would just be this. You know?” The Owl offered, “Just the two of us talking, having conversations as we do anyway.”
“Well see that’s my issue," said the Bear, exasperated, "If we’re just talking anyway, and we're having a good time, why do we have to record it? Why can’t we just talk?”
Now it was the Owl's turn to look at the Bear askance...
“Because if we had a podcast we could sell ads!”
The Bear paused and sighed. He couldn’t argue with that.
