Chewing Gum

A Monkey, an Elephant, and a Cow were sitting on the side of the road watching traffic go by. The three friends had always enjoyed idle time together. Even better if they were idle and the rest of the world was zooming along.

The more the world zoomed along and the more busy each of the individual friends got, the more they would make it a point to enjoy idle time together. This was their way of making sure they never lost sight of what was most important in life, sitting around and enjoying the company of those whose company you enjoy.

The second most important thing was coming up with schemes, scams, flim-flams, hoodwinks, hi-jinx, and bamboozles that would trick some of the constant zoomers into getting out of their zooming mindset and taking stock of their present. All three viewed this as their very important life’s work.

As the three were sitting today, Monty, the Monkey, had an idea.

“What if we were able to pull a scam on the whole world at the exact same time,” Proposed Monty, “Wouldn’t that be cool?”

Edgar, the Elephant, and Cooley, the Cow both agreed that doing a scam that would get the whole world would be pretty cool.

“But what kind of scam could work on the whole world?” Edgar asked, “Surely at least one animal will realize that a scam is happening and not participate. We’d be found out, for sure!”

“Maybe something with chewing gum?” Said Cooley, “Everyone loves chewing gum.”

Monty and Edgar thought about that for a moment.

“Well that’s true and a good start,” said Monty, “But whenever I’m chewing gum I always forget that I’m chewing gum at some point”

“Really?” replied Edgar, “I never forget, on account of what happens if you swallow chewing gum.”

Monty and Cooley were confused.

“It stays there forever! Never gets digested!” Edgar replied.

Monty and Cooley were taken aback.

“Wow I had no idea,” replies Monty.

“Yeah that’s crazy,” Cooley added, “But let’s try to think of something fake we could tell people about chewing gum to make them feel like they’ve been scammed”

Edgar smiled. “Two down,” he thought, “Next up, the rest of the world.”
